Tourist can travel around Mexico by bus, car, or airplanes. Passenger trains are almost nonexistent with the exception of the Chihuahua del Pacifico rail line. The best roads to travel by car are the toll roads which can be relatively expensive but much faster and better maintained. Even though car insurance is not required in Mexico, it highly recommended for tourists. There are usually checkpoints on the roads near the US border and the Guatemala Border. Mexico has low-cost airplane fares when booking in advance. The main full-service airlines are Mexicana, Aeromar, AeroMexico and AeroMexico Connect; the low-cost companies include InterJet, Volaris and Viva Aerobus. These cheap flights in Mexico benefit the tourists who can visit more places when planning tourism in Mexico.
When traveling by bus in Mexico, it is recommended to take the express buses. There are first class and second class buses with very similar services; executive and luxury lines cost about 60% more than first class busses. When traveling to another city, the public buses are very cheap but usually crowded.
