Safety in Mexico change from place to place. In the cities most of the areas near downtown are safer to walk at night. Staying at populated areas is the most recommend for those who travel to Mexico.
Some cities located at the borders of the country are considered more dangerous because of the drug trade and police corruption. However, tourists shouldn’t fear border towns unless they work with the drug cartels or the Mexican police.
As in any city, it is recommended to use cash and credit cards discreetly. Although there are lots of beggars in urban areas, they are not usually a threat.
