Veracruz has pretty colonial buildings such as the Municipal Palace which was build with a baroque style in 1608. There is also a historic fortress, and several marine museums. The Malecon is the ideal place to enjoy the beautiful bay sights, with many ships arriving and departing from the port. Other important attraction of Veracruz is an enormous aquarium, which has more than 200 species living in similar conditions to their natural habitat.
The most important archaeological site nearby the city of Veracruz is El Tajin, a pre-Hispanic city which was built by the huastecos and experienced its main development between the 850 and 1150 B.C. This site is a must for those doing tourism in Mexico.
The best beaches of Veracruz are in the Emerald Coast, characterized by their intense green-colored water and high temperatures. The most popular beaches are La Guadalupe, La Vigueta, Casitas and Maracaibo. There are many bungalows and hotels in Veracruz, as well as nice restaurants offering a wide variety of dishes, most of them based on seafood.
