Are you planning a trip to Mexico anytime soon? Of course your choices of places to visit, travel checklist and your itinerary will depend on your personal preferences, but here is a suggestion on a well-known itinerary for a 10-day trip that will allow you to get to know the best of Mexico: city, culture, history, ruins, beaches and nature.
Start your trip booking your travel insurance and flying to Mexico City. There you can spend a couple of days exploring the city center and visit the National Anthropology Museum to have the basic information for the rest of your trip. Once done in the city, you can take a day trip to Teotihuacán and climb the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the moon.
Once done in the Mexico D.F. area, take a domestic flight in Mexico through part of the Mexican Gulf and arrive in the city of Mérida. This is the capital of the Yucatán State and is located on the Yucatán Península. Explore this city to get to know more about the history and culture of Yucatán, the area where you will spend the most of your trip.
In Mérida, visit the museums, the cemetery and the city center. You will certainly enjoy the atmosphere of this lively city in which people of all ages have a lot of fun at all times, with parties on the street, music and hot weather year round.
From Mérida you can visit the ruins of Uxmal and Kabah in the Puuc region of Yucatán. The first ones are huge, while the others are smaller. You can then continue your trip to ChichenItzá, in the Tinúm Municipality. These are the most famous ruins, partly because they are not so far from Cancún.
And it is with a couple of days at the beach in Cancún that you could put an end to your trip. Maybe you could even take a day-trip to Xcaret and enjoy nature on this water park from there. Relax after the 7+ days of sightseeing and buy some souvenirs for your loved ones. You could fly home straight from Cancún, to avoid buying a new fight ticket to Mexico City. Moreover, Cancún is a major tourism destination in Mexico, served by many international flights.
This trip in the center-north to northeastern part of Mexico will allow you to sample the best things that this country has to offer. Of course you will still have the Pacific Coast left, but you can always plan a second trip to Mexico and see some more of it! Enjoy your trip!
